YPOPs! is an open-source multi-platform web to POP3/SMTP gateway that allows
the use of standard email clients like MS Outlook, Netscape, Opera, Eudora,
etc to download emails from Yahoo Mail accounts.
YPOPs!/Windows 0.7 has been released. This release is being released as a
"Full Version" release only. An upgrade version is not being made available
because of significant changes in the 3rd party libraries.
The file is available for download at http://yahoopops.sf.net/
The new installer will migrate the existing settings, then walk you though
uninstalling the current version before installing the new version. This is
necessary because we have completed this project's name change (from
YahooPOPs! to YPOPs!) in the program. An uninstall is required to remove the
old version, as the new version is not installed in the same location. This
version is a consolidation of the patches released by Don Beusee
<http://dbeusee.home.comcast.net/> and Daniel Bryg
<http://daniel.bryg.net/yahoopops.php> and the following new changes
introduced in 0.7:
* Changed all YahooPOPs! references to YPOPs! to complete the name
change. The o-nly reference remaining is the "YahooPOPs!" image in the help
* Troubleshooting is improved! IE users can now view the .html files
from the Yahoo session to discover the cause of their troubles.
* Upgraded third party libraries to newer versions:- curl 7.13.0 (from
* YPOPs o-n Unix/Linux will now use directories specified by
YPOPS_LOG_DIR and YPOPS_CONFIG_DIR environment variables (at run time) or
current directory if not defined. These will no longer be compile time
settings. Windows version will look at YPOPS_LOG_DIR as well. In a future
release, the windows version will also look at YPOPS_CONFIG_DIR when YPOPs!
uses an .ini file instead of the registry.
* Allow attachments with same name (as is the case with inline images
in outlook) to be handed to Yahoo with unique name (e.g. outlook.jpg and
outlook.jpg will be outlook.jpg and outlook_2.jpg). The code is primitive at
this point - if YPOPs gets outlook.jpg, image2.jpg and outlook.jpg, however
unlikely, it will not recognize the dup (it has to be same name as previous
attachment. This will be improved later. The log also has more useful
messages for troubleshooting issues with attachments.
* A text file (<yahoo account name>.sendmail.txt) is created at the
point an email is received o-n the SMTP port from the email client. This
greatly aids in troubleshooting issues with the email format and
* Fixes included in 0.6.ltd040915a, 0.6.1025 thru 0.6.050112 (0.7 is
based o-n 0.6.050112). See <http://yahoopops.sourceforge.net/history.html>
