I couldn't find this problem on this site since 646990 in 2002! I was using 0.8.6 when the problem started. In Outlook Express and WinXPsp2, it will go through the motions of downloading, but get the following error for each message.

Message number 1 could not be retrieved. Account: 'wxtomb', Server: 'localhost', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR message 1 could not be downloaded', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800420CD

I upgraded to 0.8.8 and got the same results. Any idea why this suddenly started happening? It had been working very dependably for many months now.

Same problem here. I tried all the work arounds listed below to no avail? Are there any prev. versions that will allow downloading email? This really puts me in a bind.

Well, I can say that I installed the beta version of ypops, and changed my to the beta version of yahoo mail, and the messages started flowing. But, during the time that I was without the ability to download messages, I decided to give the yahoo webmail interface a try. Not bad! Naturally, the biggest benefit is being able to access my mail from anywhere, especially since they've removed the storage limit restrictions.

Many thanks to zman0900 for encouraging me to try again.

I re-installed ypops 0.0.0.13 switched back to yahoo beta and restarted thunderbird.
In yahoo I also removed the top message that had an attachment and marked the
    remaining messages as unread.

After that ypops was able to download the messages just fine!

New versione did not fix my problem.
My domain is not Yahoo.com us but .it maybe it depends on this,
it's more likely a credential problem, but all the settigs I've tried did not solve.

Did you notice when downloading the new version that it said if you are having credential problems to try setting your session timeout to 1200 instead of 12000?
