Further to the above I have to Force Quit to exit. I have uninstalled and reinstalled and problem remains. Any one know how I can uninstall the parameter files.

Are you using the dmg packaged version, or a custom-built version via macports, fink, or source download?
It's possible this is a problem in your preferences; with xtrkcad closed, try running "mv ~/.xtrkcad ~/xtrkcad-bak" in a terminal window and seeing if the program starts.
