XFree86 4.2.0.1 is a bug fix and compatibility update to version 4.2.0. All users of XFree86 4.2.0 on Darwin/Mac OS X should update to 4.2.0.1. This package contains double-clickable installers for Mac OS X 10.1 and 10.2. Be sure to download the correct installer. (If you have previously applied the "Jaguar XTerm Update", you can install this update over it, although the standalone xterm update is no longer required.) NOTE: You must install XFree86 4.2.0 before you apply this update. Bug Fixes: o An XDarwin crash on dual processor machines has been fixed. o libXt is now a flat namespace image. o Fixed reading uninitialized memory in libXaw. o /usr/X11R6/include/X11/bitmaps now includes stipple and Stippler, which has been renamed to avoid a case insensitivity name collision. o (Jaguar only) A new xterm binary is provided. o (Jaguar only) A new libGLU is provided for compatibility with gcc 3.1. --Torrey |

Hi Torrey, I get the following error when attempting the install: Aug 26 19:38:46 PowerMac-G4-Dual-Processor WindowServer[773]: ERROR! execle(/Users/alex/Downloads/XFree86_4.2.0.1-10.2.app/Contents/MacOS/ XFree86_4.2.0.1-10.2) returned, err=22 This is the same error I got with Jaguar XTerm Update. The machine has a clean install of Jaguar on it. I also did a sudo open /Users/alex/Downloads/XFree86_4.2.0.1-10.2.app and got the same error. Looks like it's an error with the installer. Could you post a tar file of the stuff? I tried expanding the contents of the app and found a installer.zip file which had a $IA_PROJECT_DIR$ folder which contained what appeared to be the appropriate stuff. I copied it over and set the presumably correct file permissions, but I still get this error: dyld: xinit malformed library: /usr/X11R6/lib/libXt.6.dylib (not a Mach-O file, bad magic number) Trace/BPT trap 2002-08-26 20:17:17.557 XDarwin[1514] X client process terminated with status 133. Any ideas? Alex Karahalios On Monday, August 26, 2002, at 05:37 PM, Torrey Lyons wrote: > This package contains double-clickable installers for Mac OS X 10.1 > and 10.2. |

I've gotten a handful of reports of the Jaguar XTerm Update failing out of the 2000 or so downloads we've gotten so far. There is definitely some edge case that is causing the installer not to launch, but we need to do a bit of detective work to figure out what it is. In this thread <http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?thread_id=723625&forum_id=57137> one user was able to solve his problem with the same error code you are seeing. In his case the Finder was trying to launch an executable that was not where he was double clicking. After deleting the other executable it worked. For him the "rogue" executable was in the trash even though he was trying to launch an app on his desktop. In your case you seem to be trying to launch an app in /Users/alex/Downloads. Is this really where the app is that you are trying to launch? If not, kill the impostor in the Downloads folder and the original may start working. It could be that the way some browsers unpack the .zip file confuses the Finder so it ends up trying to launch a fake version of the app. What browser did you use to download and how did you unpack? Did the browser automatically unpack the .zip file for you? >Looks like it's an error with the installer. Could you post a tar >file of the stuff? I had the same problem tonight. Initially, I let the (wonderful) default Open-Up application unzip the file. It wouldn't launch. I tried using Stuffit Expander to unzip the file, and that worked fine. I don't know if that will help, or even if I could duplicate things, but, HTH, David On Monday, August 26, 2002, at 09:48 PM, Torrey Lyons wrote: > At 8:21 PM -0700 8/26/02, Alex Karahalios wrote: >> Hi Torrey, >> >> I get the following error when attempting the install: >> >> Aug 26 19:38:46 PowerMac-G4-Dual-Processor WindowServer[773]: ERROR! >> execle(/Users/alex/Downloads/XFree86_4.2.0.1-10.2.app/Contents/MacOS/ >> XFree86_4.2.0.1-10.2) returned, err=22 >> >> This is the same error I got with Jaguar XTerm Update. Thanks David, I just found out the same thing! Alex On Monday, August 26, 2002, at 11:14 PM, David Mackler wrote: > I had the same problem tonight. Hi Torrey, I just got it to work I had to do a sudo chmod -R oug+rwx XFree86_4.2.0.1-10.2.app and everything went smoothly after that. Since this was a file permission problem, I realized that it may be due to the program that I use for .zip expansion (OpenUp). By using StuffitExpander instead of OpenUp I was able to run XFree86 with no problems. Alex Karahalios On Monday, August 26, 2002, at 09:48 PM, Torrey Lyons wrote: > Strange.
