Let me propose something after hearing from Ed and Robert. What I hear: - people don't want to deal with or like the SF bug interface - minor bugs could be tracked in the top of the grabber etc as comments - SF bug system should look open for users to report problems - minor or major bugs prior to imminent release don't have to be posted anywhere, although email to the xmltv-devel list is a good thing What I think everyone agrees on: - major bugs should be posted someplace on SF or the home page. - bug systems keep people from forgetting things What I've thought of recently: - if the bug system can give you a list of things fixed since the last release this is really handy for release notes - refering to bug ids in the mailing list is handy instead of including summaries when they come up in discussion "that is bug 42, go read that." "this is the same as bug 44, check the status, its fixed in cvs and will be part of the next release" - there is no reason why big/small bugs can't be tracked, although a text file is probably fine for most things. That said, there is no real reason why the smallest of bugs can't be tracked in it. Certainly we don't expect to have too many in there anyway. Bug systems are annoying. Bug systems are useful. Bug systems get really clumsy when they have a lot of outstanding bugs. Questions ? Suggestions ? Should we go around again ? jerry |
