Context : correction of XML file (not creation).
Multiple external commands coud give important reports, for example
* Relax-NG validation with jing
* Xmllint correctness
* Schematron XSLT rules
* SAX extraction of indexed values in a specific tag
* ...
It could be very useful to fastly go to the right line (and char ?) of the edited XML file where a script discover an error.
The Scite text editor implements this kind of feature, very useful, except that it is not an XML editor.

Discussion

  • Scite, clickable line number from a validation report

    There are at least three useful features in here:

    1. Ship some Java libs to enable XSLT 2 transformations and other technologies unsupported in OSS C/C++ libs.
    2. Enable call-backs from the message pane. (This is a long-standing feature request but probably worth fleshing out so it's not just a single-action feature.)
    3. Keep validating a document after a fault is encountered. The chances are that not all validators will support this well (or at all) but it's clearly useful and important.
