Hi everyone, I've been using xine for a long time, probably about a year,
and I think it's a great program. Lately, since maybe 0.9.9 or 0.9.12, I
started noticing a problem running xine.
I'm currently using the CVS, and I can duplicate this same problem every
time. When I start xine, it starts as a window. I can bring the gui
interface up and down as many times as I like by right clicking.
However, as soon as I make xine fullscreen, it becomes very easy to
lock up X. I'll give some instances that X locks up:
1) start xine, start playing movie, close gui, make fullscreen, open gui
(lockup before gui appears on screen)
2) start xine, start playing movie, close gui, make fullscreen, make window,
open gui (lockup before gui appears on screen)
sometimes this happens instead of #2:
3) start xine, start playing movie, close gui, make fullscreen, make window
last night I noticed a new one as well (but I can't say that this happens
regularly, because I have turned de-interlacing on and off many times, it
was the first time I used linearblend before though):
4) start xine, start playing movie, close gui, turn on linearblend
deinterlacing, turn off deinterlacing (lockup).
Like I said, I've been using xine for awhile, but it's not until recent
versions (and currently the CVS) that I've been noticing this. Also, if I
don't mess around with fullscreen / gui stuff, I can start a movie, make it
fullscreen, watch it from start to finish no problems, but then when I go to
make xine a window after the movie is over, X will lockup.
It's not even that X locks up all the way, my mouse still functions
normally, but nothing responds to left or right clicking and my keyboard
doesn't respond either. I can't CTRL-ALT-F# out of X, and I can't
CTRL-ALT-Backspace to shut down X either. However, my computer doesn't lock
up all the way, because I can ssh into my computer, and kill xine like that,
and then X will continue to go on its merry way like nothing ever happened.
If I shutdown my computer manually, I can't find logs of what happened to
cause a lockup (not sure where to look, I checked out /var/log but didn't
see anything relevent).
I am using an Nvidia TNT2 ultra with nvidia drivers, aureal vortex 2 with
current CVS drivers. I am running xine in Xv with oss sound. Kernel
2.4.18, but I'm also able to replicate it with 2.4.7. Pentium III
If you need any further information let me know, like I said, I can
replicate it every time.
