Hi! How could I playback regular audio CD from xine? If I can't - it should not be hard to implement, as xine already has PCM support. Thank you for such a nice project! --- Bye, | Fax: (972)-2-6796453 Arieh | Phone: (972)-6795364 |

CDA does not use Digital Audio extraction from the CD. CD Digital Audio could probably be made to work via the VCD plugin without too much difficulty, as the VCD plugin already reads the correct sector sizes, it will just have to recognise it as Audio instead of VCD media. Hmmm. I guess that explains why CDA doesn't work on my G4 PPC system, as any recent Apple systems don't have an analogue audio cable. I have to use xmms to listen to CDs, but it would definitely be cool if I could use xine for both audio and video media. -Regards -Bill |

Don't use alsa, take the kernel sound-driver, it simulates the analog soundtransfer and the programs like kscd or xine work fine for playing CDs here. -- Machs gut | http://www.iiv.de/schwinde/buerger/tremmel/ Manfred | http://www.knightsoft-net.de |

Earlier Apple systems did have the analogue audio cable or maybe even newer PowerBooks still have it. It definitely doesn't work on my dual 500 MHz G4 (with non-SMP kernel) and I don't believe it would work on any more recent Apple desktop systems (I am using the OSS driver). I would love to be proven wrong however. Here's all I get when I press the CDA button and then play (the CD title does show up in the GUI): input_cda: server 'freedb.freedb.org:8880' successfuly connected. input_cda: server 'freedb.freedb.org:8880' successfuly connected. xine_play: xine open cda://1, start pos = 0, start time = 0 (sec) demux_elem: stop...ignored audio_oss_out: AO_CTRL_FLUSH_BUFFERS xine: using input plugin >CDA< for this MRL (cda://1). using input plugin 'CDA' for MRL 'cda://1' demux_avi: input capabilities = 525 demux_avi: input capabilities = 525 system layer format 'CDA' detected. metronom: video discontinuity #2, type is 0, disc_off is 0 metronom: waiting for audio discontinuity #2 metronom: audio discontinuity #2, type is 0, disc_off 0 metronom: audio vpts adjusted with prebuffer to 1350549 metronom: waiting for in_discontinuity update #2 metronom: video vpts adjusted to 1350549 At this point the time counter is incrementing but there is no audio. -Regards -Bill |

Do you have activated CD in the mixer. I'm using KDE 3.0.3, in KMix the green light on top and the red light on bottom has to be activated. -- Machs gut | http://www.iiv.de/schwinde/buerger/tremmel/ Manfred | http://www.knightsoft-net.de |

I'm no hardware expert so take this with a grain of salt. I don't believe it's an actual cable. Since the audio hardware on Macs is built-in as opposed to being a separate sound card, I believe it was just a connection on the motherboard, which was there on earlier Macs such as yours, but which was eliminated on more recent Macs such as mine (which is about 2 years old now). > > kernel) and I don't believe it would work on any more recent Apple > > desktop systems (I am using the OSS driver). All settings were correct as you indicated. Oh well, if nothing else, I now have kmix which seems to be a useful gadget. -Thanks -Bill |
