Doh! You're right. As soon as i tried "xine -A oss" on that file, it
I'm completely amazed. I thought it never depends on the audio driver.

Well, so does mplayer here, with both oss and alsa9 drivers.
However, xine-0.9.13 plays it only with oss. Doesn't this looks like a
bug or something?
What's your audio driver? Can you test with both oss and alsa09?

MSI nForce motherboard, with the nVidia sound thingy:
However, i just noticed i get the exact same results (sound played fine
with oss, but muted with alsa09) with this particular AVI file and
xine-0.9.13 on a totally different system:
- Red Hat 7.2
- some cheap no-name motherboard
- SoundBlaster Live (i think it's one of the oldest models)
