Hi, John Knight of Linmagau.org made a great interview with xine developers. I guess this must be a good reading for our users and contributors, there are several interesting insights here... :) http://articles.linmagau.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=Sections&file=index&req=viewarticle&artid=472&page=1 "One of the older projects in the area of Linux multimedia is xine. When I first used this application, several years ago in its early stages, it was about as stable as my grandma after having several RedBulls and vodka (...) Now xine is in the release candidate stage for its big 1.0 release and it certainly has come a long way. xine has since evolved into a fully fledged multimedia player, capable of DVD playback, video and audio files, digital CD audio playback and internet streaming." regards, Miguel PS: Siggi, may you add the link to xinehq when the machine migration is complete? |

Well, yes, it's done. But unfortunately, the new machine didn't come back to life when I rebooted it. So right now, the old machine is back in DNS and I'm just hoping it'll be stable enough till somebody looks after the new one. Feel free to put a news item on the old xinehq for the time being! Right now, I'm too frustrated to do it myself... So long, Siggi |

I founded the dvd.sf.net site and started the libdvdnav project for the sole purpose that other developers could easily add dvd playing features to their programs. The ogle project discovered most of the DVD inner workings, and I created libdvdnav from their work. I was the main contributer to the libdvdnav. I also introduced the xine-dvdnav plugin as the method for xine to play dvds. I have helped develope xine-lib to support DVDs as much as possible ever since then. Richard contributed to libdvdnav a lot, and also the current dvd.sf.net web site is mostly his work. My interest in xine development has currently lost momentum. I have started on another pet project of mine which is not related to xine in anyway. Cheers James P.S. I will still fix bugs in xine-lib, but I will probably never contribute to it as much as I did in the past. I will leave fast forward, trick mode, and Software DTS decode to other people. |

I never followed dvdnav project closely and i assumed (wrongly it seems) that Rich was the driving force behind the original xine-dvdnav plugin (before libdvdnav was created). I remember your messages here at xine-devel when you started moving code from the dvdnav plugin into the library, and i know that you contributed _a lot_ to xine to cleanly integrate the dvd support. So i'm sorry, i feel bad about having mentioned Rich and not you. I'm asking John Knight if it is possible to make a correction statement at least in the online version of the article. > My interest in xine development has currently lost momentum. I'm sure that all your work to implement, debug and fix the dvd support during the last two years or so was greatly appreciated. There are several happy xine users around that may confirm that. Anyway good luck with your new project, i know sometimes new projects are very fun! ;-) regards, Miguel |
