Hi all, I had a few suggestions to make for the project which would have impacted development a bit too greatly just before a 1.0 release. Now that 1.0 is out (which I'm very happy about -- congratulations to all the developers!), I thought I'd lay my suggestions out in the forum to see whether people like them or not. I'll put them in separate emails, since I tend to find discussion is easier when it's one topic per thread ... Anyway, the first suggestion is somewhat boring: replace CVS with Subversion. I appreciate that sourceforge.net provides xine a valuable service, and that moving from one host to another can be incredibly disruptive. Nevertheless, I think the "small" benefits that Subversion brings (such as proper renames, easier branching) would be worth the the disruption. It would also make some of my other suggestions (which I discuss in other emails) a bit easier to implement, such as reorganising the source code distribution so that plugins are distributed separately from the engine. Note that I'm happy to help with the move if it takes place; I have experience administrating both CVS and Subversion repositories. One downside is that there are not many places which provide public hosting support for projects; the only one I'm aware of is berlios.de, which fortunately does seem quite comprehensive and reliable. Anyhow, thoughts? Does anyone else feel that moving to Subversion would be beneficial? -- % Andre Pang : trust.in.love.to.save |

Hi, > didn't sourceforge include subversion in their latest upgrade? or is it for > later? It is not there yet, but they have it planned. This is actually what I am hoping for, so that we don't have to move the whole thing but still get subversion.
