http://bugs.xine-project.org/show_bug.cgi?id=225 Summary: First seconds of a flac track are skipped when playing it for the [> 1] time in a session Product: xine-lib Version: 1.1.16.2 Platform: i386/x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: P3 Component: Plugins / Audio Decoder AssignedTo: xin...@xi... ReportedBy: kev...@gm... This problem exists in versions of xine-lib > 1.1.2 (with which playback of flac files still works fine and without any glitches). How to reproduce: Load a couple of flac files onto a playlist in Amarok (configured with xine back-end) or xine. Start playback of the first track without problems and stop playback after some seconds. Play the first file again: in my case the first few seconds (7-10) are skipped. Now repeat this for the next, say, three tracks. Then, switch during playback between the 4 played tracks using the 'next' and 'previous' buttons: in my case again the first seconds of each track will be skipped, but sometimes there is also loud static as well at the beginning of a track. It seems to take a reboot in order to play the file correctly again (like the first time). The erroneous playback behaviour for the specific files is cached somewhere (?) and a restart of X does not do the trick. This bug looks kind of similar to http://bugs.xine-project.org/show_bug.cgi?id=76, but in my case the problem does not occur with any other formats, like mp3. The problem does not occur with other players, like xxms. Testing environment: - Debian Etch, Lenny, Squeeze - xine-lib 1.1.2, 1.1.12, 1.1.4, 1.1.16.2 - xine-ui, Amarok -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.xine-project.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the assignee for the bug. http://bugs.xine-project.org/show_bug.cgi?id=225 ku...@gm... changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |ku...@gm... --- Comment #2 from ku...@gm... 2009-04-21 19:04:31 UTC --- Same problem, xine 1.1.16.3, Kubuntu 9.04 rc. Flac files start seemingly randomly at around 7-14 seconds, sometimes there's a bit of static at the beginning. Also, seeking in flac files doesn't work for me with xine and (never has), but that's probably another problem. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.xine-project.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the assignee for the bug. It means losing the ability to play a whole lot of other formats though in xine and software using libxine though. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.xine-project.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the assignee for the bug. Except if I move forward/back it doesn't happen, only when I have a list and just let it play. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.xine-project.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the assignee for the bug. http://bugs.xine-project.org/show_bug.cgi?id=225 Dag Henning <dag...@ya...> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |dag...@ya... --- Comment #5 from Dag Henning <dag...@ya...> 2009-05-14 08:47:36 UTC --- I have the same problem in Kubuntu 9.04. Xine version 1.1.16.3-0ubuntu1. Flac-playback starts about 7 seconds out in the song. Mp3- and Ogg-playback works fine. Seeking works with flac but it's not as smooth as with mp3 and ogg. I tried installing Kaffeine and played the same files there with both Xine and Gstreamer. Gstreamer plays all the files just fine, but with Xine the same issues as in Amarok appears, so it's clearly an issue related to Xine. The status of the bug should be changed to confirmed. It's clearly a problem with Xine. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.xine-project.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the assignee for the bug. I can usually drag seek bar back to beginning and then track plays from 0:00. Confirmed on Gentoo, xine-lib 1.1.16.3, except no static heard. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.xine-project.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the assignee for the bug. http://bugs.xine-project.org/show_bug.cgi?id=225 Stephan <st...@ar...> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |st...@ar... --- Comment #10 from Stephan <st...@ar...> 2009-11-22 11:01:10 UTC --- I had the same problem. amarok or kaffeine skipped parts of the beginning. The seconds that missed changed randomly. Nevertheless I found a workaround to solve this nasty problem. Just increase the priority of flacdec by modifying the ./xine/config. Change it to engine.decoder_priorities.flacdec:1 (default one is 0) xine now plays the whole track and the messages that were displayed in the terminal during playback disappeared (have a look at xine-flac.log). This one doesn't solve the issue in an elegant way and might not work for you, but at the moment it works for me. openSUSE 11.2 i586 phonon 4.3.1 phonon-backend-xine 4.3.1 libphonon4 4.3.1 libxine1 1.1.16.3 libxine1-codecs 1.1.16.3 libxine1-pulse 1.1.16.3 pulseaudio 0.9.19 libpulse0 0.9.19 amarok 2.2.1 kaffeine 0.8.8 -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.xine-project.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the assignee for the bug. http://bugs.xine-project.org/show_bug.cgi?id=225 --- Comment #11 from Klaas van den Berg <kev...@gm...> 2009-11-28 16:17:03 UTC --- Thanks Stefan, this workaround works for me as well. I'm using about the same versions of the softwares you mentioned. A note to Amarok 2(?) users who use phonon-backend-xine: I had to edit .config/kde.org/Phonon-Xine.xine.conf to make this work for Amarok; .kde/share/apps/amarok/xine-config is not used anymore. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.xine-project.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the assignee for the bug. http://bugs.xine-project.org/show_bug.cgi?id=225 --- Comment #12 from Darren Salt <li...@yo...> 2009-11-28 20:12:32 UTC --- As things stand, I'm inclined to do two things: enable the FLAC decoder/demuxer by default, and bump its decoder's priority above that of ffmpegaudio. Hopefully, this'll also 'fix' some other FLAC bugs. That said, patches for either (which make /other/ changes) are welcome... -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.xine-project.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the assignee for the bug.
