What version of what distro of Linux? What is the version of gcc?

I had a similar problem with gcc 2.96 with Mandrake 8.0 and it was causing no 
binary to compile but no errors when compiling. I totally removed all 
development with gcc and egcs and installed only the bare minimum of gcc and 
the newest I could find and my problem was fixed. Usually I do a full install 
of the development but there is something in Mandrake that is bad. I have not 
looked to see what package was doing it.
