Hi Perry, wvRTF is severely broken. If you'd like to fix it, please be my guest ;-) >I need to reliably convert Word files to RTF. I've used wv to reliably >convert Word files to ascii. However, it doesn't seem to work well >converting to RTF. Word can't open an RTF file created by wvRTF. Is >there a new/better/other Word to RTF converter that works. Not that I know of. One could use AbiWord (www.abisource.com) and do this via: abiword --to=rtf input.doc And this will create input.rtf. Note that AbiWord doesn't do tables or boxes yet. >In addition, the converter is too simple to convert Word files that have >boxes or tables. Where can I get information about the Word format so I >can properly convert these? Right - it's 95% not implemented now in wvRTF but you could make it work, but I guarantee that it would be quite a bit of work to get wvRTF up to snuff. Alternately, you might try wvLaTeX and find some way to convert LaTeX to RTF, or follow a similar suggestion with the other supported wv output formats. Remember that wv is a library and these are other programs that use that library. libwv knows nothing about RTF or HTML or LaTeX. It only knows about MS Word DOC and how to iterate that out to some callback functions. MSWord DOC documentation can be found on www.wvware.com/wvInfo.html and www.wotsit.org as well as the MSDN site. The best wv documentation (in my opinion) is found in the AbiWord sources. http://www.abisource.com/lxr/source/abi/src/wp/impexp/xp/ie_imp_MsWord_97.cpp Dom _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp. |
