In November 1998, the Altima project was announced on slashdot with the
intention of being the GPL equivalent of Ultima Online. About a year later
under a new name and with the new goal of creating the first MMORPG engine as
Free Software, the WorldForge project became more recognisable as it is today.
Seven years down the line the hard working members of the project have
persevered through trolls, skeptics, changes of leadership, slashdotting and
worse to create over one million lines of code and nearly four gigabytes of

Atlas-C++ is the standard implementation of the WorldForge
Atlas protocol. This should be the final release on the
development branch, which is working towards the 0.6 series.

Skstream version 0.3.5 has been released and is now available from the WorldForge download site.
Skstream is an iostream based C++ socket library. It is ideally suited for use as the underlying transport for Atlas-C++, and has been well tested and debugged. It was first discovered for WorldForge when it was used in UClient and has since been packaged up as its own library for use on other WorldForge projects. The code was originally written by Rafael Guterres Jeffman who is not involved with the project but we have extensively rewritten it, and added new features such as IPv6 support and unix domain sockets.... read more

Eris version 1.3.7 has been released and is now available from the WorldForge download site.
Eris is the WorldForge client-side session layer, used by many existing clients. This release fixes many bugs discovered at LinuxTag 2005, and includes updates to the unit-test harness, which now uses Unix pipes instead of socket-pairs for out-of-band control.
Hagen has further improved the output of the metaQuery tool, to display server uptime in a human-meaningful way, and the results are already visible on the 'Active Servers' section of the website.... read more

Ember version 0.1.0 has been released and is now available from the WorldForge download site.
Equator is a world building and general purpose editing client for use with WorldForge games. This is the first alpha release of equator, so many features are not yet implemented, and others do not yet work well.
The major features available at this time are:
Equator can now connect to a WorldForge server, move entities around and edit the terrain.
A cal3d animation previewer has been implemented.
Ember version 0.2.0 has been released and is now available from the WorldForge download site.
Ember is a 3d client for the WorldForge project. It uses the Ogre 3d graphics library for presentation and CEGUI for it's GUI system. The major new feature in this release is the ability to run cyphesis completely stand alone without need for a database backend, or any of its library dependencies given a suitably configured binary. A binary distribution which will run on most reasonably modern Linux systems is available from the WorldForge File download page. This should make it possible for new server administrators to try out cyphesis without needing to install dependencies, or spend time configuring the sytem for cyphesis. Entityforge 0.2.1 has been released. Entityforge is a character animation tool used by artists and animators.
This version includes a new md3 loader, and better user interface for selecting parts of a model.
Varconf version 0.6.2 has been released. Varconf is a configuration library used by many worldforge components.
New features in this version include support for sigc++ 2.0, improved handling of command line args and a new accessor to help keep code clean on modern C++ compilers.
WorldForge has not been using SourceForge for a few years. However, the project is still alive.

Acorn is the second in a series of games created as part of the WorldForge bootstrapping endeavour, aimed at creating an engine for massively multiplayer online games. The previous demo featured skeletons moving across crude maps. Acorn builds on this by incorporating a Python-scripted, event-driven rule system, a client/server architecture using the Atlas Protocol System, goal-motivated artificial intelligence, herding behavior and nutrient-based growth simulation, sound detection and automated reaction, and a richer collection of artwork, sound effects, and music.... read more
After long and hard work, I have created new meadow tiles
which look very realistic.
