Ahh, brave new world, design by committee. To not lose support of the various departments, we compromise to use every possible interface that one can come up with. The problem I am seeing is that in the near future, how new developers can be attracted to WebObjects. The 'old' way would be: try a project in DirectToWeb, importing database definitions via EOModeler, and wow! A working database interface. Change some rules, wow! An application that everybody can start using. After that, freeze a component, open it in WebObjects Builder, and the next enhancement was made. That way one could slowly grow into WebObjects and the frameworks. If I would have started with WebObjects right now the Eclipse way, I am sure that after the first incomprehensible message, I would say f**k it, I will be using Ruby, PHP or something else that promises an easy way to get results. No matter what kind of maintenance hell I might end up with later. Who then lives, then maintains. As the WebObjects developer group does not have the weight of IBM's Websphere, MS's .NET or BEA's WebLogic or Oracle's appserver 'industry standard' marketing machine and schooling facilities, the introduction into WebObjects for new developers should be as gentle as possible. (After that, you can skim their organisations with extra training, support contracts and enhancements, like the Oracle and IBM organisations do so thoroughly ;-) Perhaps a WOLips vodcast like Nathan Walker did with XCode would be a nice idea, to not seriously confuse beginners with errors that every new user makes. I am happy to help to make a start (with other people as mentor) during the WWDC, as there seems nothing interesting to do in SF during the evenings ;-) Perhaps it is too early now, it seems the development of Wo-projects/ WOLips is still very much in flux. > > ---------------------------------------------------------------------- > --- > This SF.net email is sponsored by DB2 Express > Download DB2 Express C - the FREE version of DB2 express and take > control of your XML.
