Correct where “goes” means “installs to”. _______________________________________________________________ FireGiant | Dedicated support for the WiX toolset | http://www.firegiant.com/ From: Tamir Daniely [mailto:tam...@gm...] Sent: Friday, April 11, 2014 8:06 PM To: WiX toolset developer mailing list Subject: Re: [WiX-devs] Guid="*" Algorithm Hi, 1. I found the implementation at `Uuid.NewUuid` in `src\tools\wix\Uuid.cs`. 2. Seems to be derived from the full KeyPath of the component. So as long as everything goes to the same place the GUID will not change. I have two questions. 1. Where is this algorithm? 2. Is intended to be stable across upgrade codes? I.e. if a user decided to split an application installer that universally uses Guid="*" in half because it is really two products, can they still use Guid="*" in both new installers or will they have to hard code the Guids to prevent component rule violations?
