Hi all, as I've mentioned before we must do new 2.12.x stable branch release to fix the widely announced vulnerability. And only way to do a "stable" release now is to do it from 2.12.x stable branch. But we must do considerable amount of building changes etc also. So I'm wondering if we should actually bump the version number to 2.14.0 for the fixed release. I'd like to do the version number bump because there is important (for some) changes like dropping support for old Windows versions and compiler/runtimes update. This kind of changes should not happen between stable releases. And I've mentioned we can take some more fixes from 2.13.x branch to make it better update for users. So calling it 2.12.x is not really correct. It is more than 2.12.x. Also bumping the version number allows us to merge some more changes, even some behavioral changes from trunk. Which would be very nice to get better WinMerge for users. It may be even though as starting new stable branch from 2.12.x branch. Where we'd really can release something stable for the users. But then bumping to 2.14.x might confuse people following 2.13.x releases and thinking all the goodies in trunk will also be in 2.14.x. And of course we'd have to bump version number in trunk to 2.15.x. Which again would be a bit confusing. Regards, Kimmo |
