Hello,

if i compare my two folders (sourcecode of C# project) then i have one file which is listed in the summary-view as "Text files are identical".

But when i open this file (doubleclick) then i see many (547) Differences... The Date of this file is also different.
I cannot upload this file to you, because it contains over 14000 rows of code...

I tried the new alpha version (2.13.20.0) and it is the same behavior like in the stable version 2.12.14.0.

Maybe i can email you this two files if you promise me to delete the files after your inspection!?

thanks

Steven.

    Hey,

now i tried this version: WinMerge_0.2011.002.145

In the Folder comparison the affected file is skipped "File skipped" and when i open a file comparison with this file than an dialog comes up (see attached file).

i am wondering because this file is a .cs (C#) Source-file and not an archive (zip or 7z)...

winmerge 2011 has a bug in file filters, which leads it to often skip all the files after you install it and compare.

You have to go in to the file filter settings and choose edit, and then do something -- I forget what now -- to work around this bug. It is some kind of transient setting bug -- it is a matter of trying to get it back to not using an invisible file filter, and then it will start comparing all the files again.

It has been in it for a while, but I haven' t figured out what the bug is yet -- I just struggle and work around it every time I install a new version, and then I'm ok until a new version comes out.

Can you attach the edited .FLT file?

When setting the value of HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Thingamahoochie\WinMerge\Settings\FileFilterCurrent, WinMerge 2.12.4 omits the [F] prefix which is elsewhere used to indicate a reference to an .FLT file. In particular, the related MRU items in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Thingamahoochie\WinMerge\Files\Ext do include the [F] prefix. WinMerge 2011 is more consistent in that it includes the [F] prefix in both places. The downside is that switching between WinMerge 2.12.4 and WinMerge 2011 triggers the observed issue. That said, I don't see much of a reason to move back to WinMerge 2.12.4.

    > How can i make works with the winmerge 2.12.14.0?

WinMerge 2.12.4 has a known bug that causes it to produce wrong results when using line filters in conjunction with unicode files. If you are really really willing to continue to mess with it, try to disable line filters.

    Correcting myself:
... when using "Ignore blank lines" option in conjunction with unicode files.
