I have a Windows 7 Pro 64bit PC with SP1. I also have a genuine Microsoft Windows MCE receiver plugged into the USB ports. Unfortunately, I cannot get WinLirc to register any commands the receiver sees. Light does blink on the receiver, but that's all that happens. I do not have any "broken" icons in my device manager, so I believe that the MCE receiver driver is running.

If I set WinLirc.exe to run as Administrator, in XP compatibility mode, it will start and the grey light icon appears in the taskbar. When I send IR commands nothing happens. I've tried to monitor the IR using IRGraph, but all I get is a window with a blue background. This is using the MCEXP.DLL plugin.

If I set WinLirc.exe to use Vista compatibility mode, it won't even recognize the receiver when I choose the MCEVista.DLL plugin. The same happens when I run in native Windows 7 mode.

This is with the latest version of WinLirc - 0.8.7a

Is there a walkthrough available for us Windows 7 64bit users with the MCE remote to set up and troubleshoot WinLirc?

Thanks!

    Hi,
If i can find my MCE receiver :o I will try test and fix this if necessary. My dev machine is Vista 32, and I've not actually tried winlirc on 64bit windows yet. MCEXP.dll definitely wont work on Windows Vista/7 though as it uses a different driver.

    Sorry for the slow reply...

The MCE remote works fine in Windows 7 - moves my selection around, controls the volume, etc.

In normal Windows 7 mode, or any of the Vista compatibiity modes, WinLIRC fails to initialize. The input plugin is MCEVista.dll.

The Config textbox is empty... I don't have any config files, so I assume that it will just receive the IR and then I can record with IRRecord.exe. I'm hoping to capture the IR from my remotes to build a config file.

Are there any commands I can run, or output I can capture that would help with this?

This is model 1040 of "Remote Control and receiver 1.0A for Media Center PC with Windows". P/N X800684-101.

    Hi swnorton,
You don't need a config file for any of the receivers to initialise them. Some of the plugins work without configs as I built button names into the plugins. Anyhow, currently I don't have a win7 64 + MCE receiver to test on so I can't help, unless you are prepared to let me remote login into your machine, team viewer, vnc, remote desktop or whatever. I can then figure out where its failing and then have a bash at trying to fix it. Actually I might be able to send you a debug version so we can work out where its failing.

    As for the config file
    http://lirc.sourceforge.net/remotes/mceusb/lircd.conf.mceusb
That's what you want. Pretty much covers all the MCE remotes. I tested that with the reciever you have on vista32 and it works fine here.

I replied to your email, but it bounced back undeliverable.

Let me know what to do and I can test it out for you.
