This is my successfull story with WinLirc and Dscaler.
First problem was to get a working IR TX/RX system since I had difficulties
getting a proper IR IC.
I had an old and broken Philips VHS-VCR complete with remote. The solution
was simple. I desoldered the IR IC from the VCR, bought the remaining
electronics (which are far easier to find) and build the little system
following the basic schematics http://www.lirc.org/images/schematics.gif
WinLirc had no problem finding the serial receiver, agetting usefull signals
from it saving a working .conf file.
Second problem was to let DScaler receive WinLirc signals. Well,
WinLirc_to_DScaler was the solution (http://www.tfm.ro). It gets the
messages from WinLirc and sends them as keyboard shortcuts to DScaler.
Now everything works and it costs only a bunch of Euros. Cheap and working
Contact me via email if you need more details on the hardware-software
(maybe the working winlirc .conf file and the Winlirc_to_Dscaler
