Could someone please tell me how to safely download winAVR so I can use it to re-program the chip on Mitch Altman's BrainMachine, without destroying my computer. Someone said use notepad, just a regular notepad? how would that affect the command prompt, where do I find that? Someone said save it to a standard drive, total hand-holding needed here, did they mean not in C\Windows\Program files, then which one? Please all of it, for a non-programmer, total newbie.

Don't worry Maeve. You got this.

This might explain a little more than I, and mighta got you all the info you needed.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eULN9ZAbIX0

      but you asked

Could someone please tell me how to safely download winAVR so I can use it to re-program the chip

      sure safely download winavr

      https://sourceforge.net/projects/winavr/files/latest/download

      Someone said use notepad

the notepad program they keep talking about ( maybe you dont need it cause it may already be built in to winavar. more than likely. however,

here u go its good to have this too. better than notepad this is called notepad++ commonly used for web design, programmers, non programmers. me even sometimes, so crazy people...

and here is brain machine related videos, id actually start here before you dive into the above winAVR and find some code someone already wrote so u dont have to learn to code quite yet. (but u will learn if you havent already just by the time your done building and using it)

This guy builds it and stuff

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipMKACLRVaA

watch those vids. easier than reading below. trust me.

ok everything from here is not what you asked so you don't need to make sense of the below scribbles

rather you dont need to read any of the below, likely ever.

im just too lazy to even draft it to make sense at this point cause i couldnt find an end to answer the question you actually asked and may have not even realised.

dont worry guys i got this tho.

But this is gonna be a pretty long answer like I said below.
      tldr;toolongdidntreadloliwasprettyhighwhenitriedtoanswerthisbutyouknowitstoolatetojusthitthebackbuttonnowcauselikeiddintevenfilesaveasWTFNOTEPAD.LOL.md.txt.tar.gz.7z.com
      ---end of file

      madness?

Ok I don't know if anyone answered for you yet or if you need help or figured it out but.. I at first saw your question, said WTF does that shit even mean.. mitch altmans brain machine could destroy your computer? lol.

Then came back to make an account on sourceforge here cause I think I understand that you are in need of some help and not just im high

      or

you already found out how to build the brain machine thing and that is a really, really hard question to answer actually. loll

but first. you said notepad. and thats why everyone who read this got all like, oooooh shit.

easily the hardest simple question to answer in programming, and its never usually explained without a history lesson, sarcasm, boring math, and realization that sourceforge is pretty much, a giant community notepad gone wrong. . period.

or something. because thats just the easiest answer right now.

      oh and download this incase.

      https://codeload.github.com/adafruit/Adafruit_Brain-Machine-Kit/zip/master

So you are going to want the links and simple answer (sorry i couldnt find you a simple answer). Here they are officially though I believe.

      https://learn.adafruit.com/brain-machine/use-it

      https://github.com/adafruit/Adafruit_Brain-Machine-Kit

if you don't use github yet, you may soon.) If you get lost easy, as I do.

README.md or readme.txt are always good to click first,

its the instruction manual in the pile of lego blocks, and that shit is fun to build and read sometimes, so don't worry. if the readme wont open or something just open it with a notepad

or wordpad or codeblock, visual studio code..

but in your case I think notepad is winAVR. so its a trick question! but u could write your own code for those glasses in even just a normal notepad

but just never use notepad when u get notepad++ ( personally i rarely use it cause i forget)

The Brain Machine provides you with a fun, easy way to meditate, all the while being very photogenic! They work with lights and sounds that pulse at a 14-minute-long meditation sequence of brainwave frequencies. Your brain synchronizes to this meditation sequence, and you meditate. It's that easy! And the beautiful colors and patterns you vividly imagine along the way make it fun and enjoyable. The Brain Machine works with blinking lights. Be aware that blinking lights are not good for some people, especially those prone to seizures!

Build your own Brain Machine to expand your brain's technical skills, then lean back and enjoy the light show. They are a blast at parties, a fun way to practice meditation and trip out.

The Brain Machine Kit is an unassembled DIY kit - all the parts needed to make it are included:**

      High quality Printed Circuit Board

All electrical components, including pre-programmed microcontroller, wires, LEDs

      Over-ear headphones

      WAYYYY too long didn't read from here on out;

I'm a total newbie actually, and I just showed an"expert" the other day that if you dont give up you can dual boot kali linux on a macpro but you just need to like, you know, build this application on github thats outdated with x-code or whatever and just cause it looks broken it might need debugged so i clicked the red exclamation marks, googled some shit till they all went away and hit build and bam. it compiled and built ran and were able to get that macbook pro multibooting all kinds of MBR gpt guid shit i have no idea but its got kali or MACOS on the bootup screen.

and im not bragging, im just saying, i don't really even use mac that much. I just was like. hey is there command prompt or terminal or something? he was like oh you mean TERMINAL. yeah whatever. cause I felt like a total newbie. I wasnt about to learn x-code or understand what i was even doing really i just kept googling errors for bout 20 minutes copy pasting like a newb. i didnt even realise it was basically visual basic. or .net. or codium, or like, a notepad, even a freakin IDE at all cause I was just so damn lost on the mac side of things anyways.. after it all worked out i kinda realised how much easier it was than i thought..

That might have not made any sense cause, well. Some of it should have. like the notepad thing. And thats all that mattered. But heres your starting pointsI believe.

what is all means? Well If I'm reading correctly you're wondering about how come someone told you to use notepad and turn itnto something that is on a microchip or circuit board hardware toy you found that you just want to work.

oh shit. Yeah.. I kind of realise what my son hasn't tried to skype, call or e-mail since his birthday.. except for the message that said, the package came, thanks dad!

      https://www.amazon.com/ELEGOO-Tracking-Ultrasonic-Intelligent-Educational/dp/B07KPZ8RSZ

He probably just wanted like, one he didn't have to build and program.. haha. Oh well, so I got good at finding instructions and youtube tutorials to get him through it even though he doesn't understand the programming language yet, or english language for that matter... but thats not a problem. It's all about following the steps and instructions. for me, the pictures diagrams and videos help better sometimes but i end up needing all three cause i still can't understand math so ... thats what the computer does, and somehow this light on my arduino is blinkin so fast now its like.. solid.

      Ok here's stuff you'll need

MS-DOS, TERMINAL, Linux Console, Dos Shell, Windows 95(98se), Notepad, Angelfire Dreamweaver, Visual Basic, blah blah C, C BASIC, C++, math. blah blah algebra or something too, variables statements and conditions, . .NET, HTML, Wordpress, Drupal, Joom--jk
      jk

I get lost all the time trying to understand new code. I mean, I still don't.
      But you'll get used to reading it, sort of like emojis :) ( . )( . )
      so remember;

      if
      what the fuck?
      then
      wtf
      else
      lol

But keep comming back to the readme and instructions and reread from the beggining sometimes, i personally skip alot of the shit i dont understand then eventually stuff happens as i build it and theres usually a few screws loose but it works in the end.

visual studio code is probably gonna be somethin useful later for sure. ill put useful links at bottom of this madhouse of an answer I'm attempting to navigate you through.

by the way, this brain machine kit thing looks cool, i might need one, my teacher in college used to talk about programming something like this that went with his own binural beats he wrote before it was totally kewls to know what the hell that even was and ppl thought it was just hocus pocus crap. but when your teacher was a retired airforce satellite systems engineer and teaching you visual basic.. in your intro to college... i could see i probably didnt know shit and he might know something i didnt about this program your own high thing.

but if thats not your thing then here's what you were asking about right? (i kinda want to
try both at the same time. meaning smoke crack ROCKED UP COCAINEE and put thos
e crazy spinny glasses on synced up with some binural beats or EDM and some shit!)
