When I sort the inbox on any of the columns (from, date, size, subject) there appear a lot of e-mails that, according to the page you get when clicking on them, no longer exist.

When using the "Reset sorting" function the inbox turns back to normal.

I found a similar report on the Virtualmin forum: http://www.virtualmin.com/node/10223
There is also a screenshot posted there.

It seems like for every mail that is deleted over IMAP protocol there is left such a message with From: "None" and Size: "0 kB".

I am running Virtualmin, Webmin and Usermin all updated to the latest version on Ubuntu server 10.04 (also up to date).

When I go to Webmin > Postfix Mail Server > User Mailboxes > username I will find the same problem.

Are these email messages being deleted from the IMAP server by another mail client, like thunderbird or outlok?

The messages are being deleted using Outlook.

I just logged in on Usermin and I can't reproduce it any more...
Does Usermin perform an overnight rebuild of indexes?

I've managed to reproduce part of the problem:
Step 1: delete e-mail from within outlook using IMAP interface
Step 2: log in to Usermin
Step 3: Notice: the deleted e-mail is still visible in the Inbox but struckthrough - click on the e-mail
Step 4: Notice: the e-mail opens normally - now do back to the Inbox
Step 5: the e-mail is now gone!

I did not manage to reproduce the listing of deleted messages as "None", "0 kB" but I suppose that it will occur if I don't open the e-mail but try to delete it again this time from within Usermin.

Do you have Usermin configured to talk to your IMAP server as well, or is it reading local mail files? This can be configured in Webmin, at Webmin -> Usermin Configuration -> Usermin Module Configuration -> Read Mail.

I've attached a file (at the bottom of this page) with a screenshot of the "Read mail" configuration section.
I think you want to know the setting "Mail storage format for Inbox" which is set to "Remote IMAP server".
