Is it possible that Virtualmin will stop functioning or will have problems after such upgrade ? I mean such an upgrade is going to change most if not all software that Virtualmin and Webmin interact with. In theory Virtualmin support all 3 mentioned ubuntu versions (when installed on fresh system im sure it works ok) but does it support upgrading? > -- > WBR, > Andrey Repin (anr...@fr...) 20.03.2013, <23:02> > > Sorry for my terrible english... > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > Everyone hates slow websites. Greetings, Webmin users list! >>> Is it safe to a release upgrade on ubuntu ? >>> I mean apt-get release upgrade from Ubuntu 8.04 to 10.04 or even 12.04 ? >>> I would be thankfull for any advice on this topic. >> I don't think, this is a proper mailing list to ask such questions. >> > Well i phrased it wrong > Is it safe to do such upgrade regarding Virtualmi/Webmin ? > Is it possible that Virtualmin will stop functioning or will have > problems after such upgrade ? >From my brief appraisal of five hosts I'm using webmin on (two of which running Virtualmin), I can say that there was no significant changes in regard to both between 8.04 and 12.04. Any internal changes done to the system largely overshadowed by the Webmin intermediate layer. > I mean such an upgrade is going to change most if not all software that > Virtualmin and Webmin interact with. No. The only change that I can think about from the top of my head is a rename of dhcp3-server to isc-dhcp. > In theory Virtualmin support all 3 mentioned ubuntu versions (when > installed on fresh system im sure it works ok) but does it support > upgrading? I would recommend to do backups of each of your Virtualmin hosts anyway. And make sure they are functional (i.e. install new OS in VirtualBox and try to unpack backups one by one.) Additionally, if your 8.04 install is 32-bit, I strongly consider making a switch to 64-bit, if your hardware supports it. (Likely it is.) Which means a complete reinstall anyway. -- WBR, Andrey Repin (anr...@fr...) 21.03.2013, <20:02> Sorry for my terrible english... |
