Hi Webmin developers and translators, Webmin 1.280 will be coming out soon, so I have created a 1.279 development pre-release for interested people to test before the official 1.280 version comes out. Translators should also take a look at this version to find any new strings that need conversion. You can get the 1.279 version from : http://download.webmin.com/devel/tarballs/webmin-1.279.tar.gz or http://download.webmin.com/devel/rpm/webmin-1.279-1.noarch.rpm The biggest changes in this new version are : - A new theme called 'Simple Blue' that uses much fewer images than the current 'MSC' theme (and may eventually become the default). - Code cleanups in modules that display tables to use a new API, and to support mass deletion where it was lacking. - Multiple hosts can be selected for each monitor in the System and Server Status module. - Support for tunneling connections to another server in the SSH/Telnet Login module. A full change log is available at : http://www.webmin.com/changes-1.279.html A pre-release 1.209 version of Usermin is also available, which fixes many bugs in the Read Mail module, improves search speed for Maildir mailboxes, adds auto-clearing of folders and generally cleans up the code. This is available from : http://download.webmin.com/devel/tarballs/usermin-1.209.tar.gz or http://download.webmin.com/devel/rpm/usermin-1.209-1.noarch.rpm - Jamie |

Bit off topic, but I want to use Webmin to set up the procmail filter. I am ASSuMing I have procmail installed. There are some things in my M4 configuration for sendmail that seems to indicate this. Now I am setting up Asterfax. Asterfax wants incoming faxs to be deposited in a directory like: /var/spool/asterfax/inbox My host is sip.htt-consult.com. I want mail for fax.htt-consult.com to go into the asterfax inbox directory. first I set up a CNAME for fax.domain.com Then I add a local domain to sendmail of fax.htt-consult.com and a procmail entry of :0 * ^(To|Cc|Bcc).*@fax.htt-consult.com /var/spool/asterfax/inbox/ (created with Webmin add new filter action) I send an email to 74...@fa... and I see in /var/log/maillog that the to get rewritten to 74...@si... and there is no user 747. Message is rejected. Jun 15 17:16:51 sip sendmail[3172]: k5FLGpeM003172: <74...@si...>... User unknown Jun 15 17:16:51 sip sendmail[3172]: k5FLGpeM003172: from=<rg...@ht...>, size=974, class=0, nrcpts=0, proto=ESMTP, daemon=MTA, relay=[65.84.78.211] So local domain is not the answer. Then I try domain routing (mailertable). I create the entry: fax.htt-consult.com procmail: and spam control (access) fax.htt-consult.com OK seems good. But maillog says: Jun 15 17:26:15 sip sendmail[3252]: k5FLQFXX003252: from=ast...@si..., size=431, class=0, nrcpts=1, msgid=<115...@si...>, relay=root@localhost Jun 15 17:26:15 sip sendmail[3252]: k5FLQFXX003252: to=74...@fa..., ctladdr=ast...@si... (100/101), delay=00:00:00, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=relay, pri=30431, relay=[127.0.0.1] [127.0.0.1], dsn=4.0.0, stat=Deferred: Connection refused by [127.0.0.1] Oh, since there is a user asterisk on this system, I am using Webmins user mail to send the test messages discussed above. I can't figure out what sendmail did with the message when it got the connection refused.... Oh, I switched to Thunderbird mail from Eudora and still shaking things out... |

I'm lost... I was checking Asterfax homepage (http://asterfax.sourceforge.net), and it seems to me that it works as an smtp-like daemon!... also... if you create a user "receivedfaxes" and use procmail in /home/receivedfaxes perhaps it will be easier to trackdown the problem.... you could do: add the user receivedfaxes using virtusertable make any mail received for fax.htt-consult.com go to receivedfaxes create something like this in /home/receivedfaxes su receivedfaxes cat >> /home/receivedfaxes/.procmailrc LOGFILE=pmlog LOGABSTRACT=all VERBOSE=on myunique = `date +%s` :0: /var/spool/asterfax/inbox/$myunique (control+D) be sure that receivedfaxes can write to /var/spool/asterfax/inbox/ (you can make the user receivedfaxes with the same group than the one you see in /var/spool/asterfax/inbox ) Cheers! Yes Asterfax has its own smtp daemon that they admit is not too secure. They tell you how to run it with sendmail on the same system by eating up another IP address. I did this already. But I am saying, forget that, why not just use Sendmail. I believe I followed your instructions. They are not working. Something is immediately mapping fax.htt-consult.com to sip.htt-consult.com before anything else seems to take affect.... This seems like a bug to me. Also, is this really "tunneling" through the Webmin server, or is it just a direct connection from the Java applet to the SSH server? It seems more like the latter.... To use it, you need to set the 'Use proxy to connect to other hosts?' option to 'Yes', and in the 'Hostname to connect to' enter some other host on your webmin server's network. Entering 'localhost' would be pointless when in proxy mode, as it is the default destination for non-proxied connections :) - Jamie |

First, with the module config set to "Automatic", Port set to "Default", and proxy set to "No", the SSH/Telnet Login module connects me to my local desktop, not the Webmin server. This seems kind of pointless, and definitely not expected behavior. Second, if I enter another server hostname in the module config and leave proxy set to "No", it does connect me properly to that server. But this does not seem to be tunneling in this case, it seems to be a direct connection from my desktop (where the Java applet is running). Finally, if I enter another server hostname in the module config and set proxy to "Yes", it says "Connected to <unknown host> 10002", but it does not actually connect to anything. Alan |

If not, Java shouldn't even be allowed to connect to localhost! I tested these settings myself, and was able to connect to the Webmin server just fine. > Second, if I enter another server hostname in the module config and > leave proxy set to "No", it does connect me properly to that server. > But this does not seem to be tunneling in this case, it seems to be a > direct connection from my desktop (where the Java applet is running). > > Finally, if I enter another server hostname in the module config and set > proxy to "Yes", it says "Connected to <unknown host> 10002", but it does > not actually connect to anything. Are you by any change accessing Webmin through some kind of proxy or Apache forwarding virtual host? This may be confusing the module .. - Jamie |

What does the 'hostname -f' command output when run at the shell prompt on your system? If it is returning localhost, this may be confusing Webmin.. - Jamie |

From a security standpoint, I think it is okay that Java is connecting to localhost, since it is technically using an open network port on my machine and prompts for authentication. It is not connecting directly to the local machine filesystem from the Java applet. According to netstat, here is the connection from that applet to my local ssh port: TCP Desktop:43556 localhost:ssh ESTABLISHED 2624 [iexplore.exe] > Are you by any change accessing Webmin through some kind of proxy or Apache > forwarding virtual host? This may be confusing the module .. No, in this case I have a direct HTTPS connection to the Webmin server. The hostname -f command displays my system's fully-qualified domain name, which is the same name I am using in the URL to connect to the Webmin server. Thanks, Alan |

This is very strange then, especially if it only started happening in Webmin 1.280, as they only change in that release was the addition of proxying support, which you aren't using. Does this still occur if you change the 'SSH applet to use' option on the Module Config page to 'Old version' ? - Jamie |

I haven't used this module in a long time, but I was intrigued when I saw the new tunneling feature in the change logs, so I decided to try it again. > Does this still occur if you change the 'SSH applet to use' option on the > Module Config page to 'Old version' ? No, it says it is connecting to the Webmin server in this case, but then my connection is rejected because it does not allow SSH version 1. So, the problem seems to be only with the "New version" of the applet. It looks like there might be a newer version of this applet on the JavaSSH.org web site. They are showing version 2.6, but the version that is included in Webmin is 2.5. Maybe they fixed this problem in the newer release? Thanks, Alan |

When using the SSH-2 capable applet, you need to set the 'Hostname to connect to' on the Module Config page to the hostname of your Webmin server (as shown in the URL). Webmin is supposed to work this out automatically, but due to a bug it doesn't.. The next release will fix this properly. - Jamie |
