Hi again Jamie. Thanks for the help. I realise it is above and beyond the call of duty...:-) I did the test you suggested - and it appears to me that the update is not even trying to generate an email. At least there is absolutely nothing generated in /ver/log/maillog. Because the log is only short I have included it below. There is one email generated at 4.02 am which is the logwatch email - but nothing a 3 am - and nothing when I tried to manually start /etc/webmin/webmin/update.pl. I rebooted the system around 15.09 as you can see. Shortly thereafter I ran update.pl in a terminal window. There was no change to maillog. I don't know whether this might give you a clue as to the problem - but I don't think automatic centos system updates are working either. Again - they appear to be enabled (yum-updatead appears to be running) - but never seem to happen automatically. The system updates OK when I manually request updates via webmin/system/software packages/{upgrade all software packages from yum}. It seems to me that there is something a bit odd with this system....:-) Richard.
