Yes I did the same, apt-get -f install and it failed.  I don't remember the exact wording, but no package available was the gist of it.

I tried the installation the same as you have.

I'm pretty sure installing it from source will work fine.  Debian is new to me and this is just a backup server.  Everything appears to be working as expected.
