Hello,

using Webmin 1.660 with Samba 4.1.0rc4-8.1-3083-SUSE-oS12.3-i386 at
converting unix-users to samba-users I get

Failed to convert user : /usr/bin/pdbedit failed :

No builtin backend found, trying to load plugin
Module 'tdbsam' loaded
new password:retype new password:

(samba-password backend is tdbsam - sorry -, unchecking pdbedit in module configuration doesn't work, "pdbedit -a username" works if run manually.)

Is there any solution to this problem?

Thanks in advance
Dirk

If you SSH in and run :

    pdbedit -a -s /etc/samba/smb.conf -c '[UN]'

does that create a new user successfully? And does it prompt for a password?

    pdbedit -a -s /etc/samba/smb.conf -c '[UN]'

    results in

No builtin backend found, trying to load plugin
    Module 'tdbsam' loaded
Username not specified! (use -u option)

but (after generating user test5 for Unix/passwd)

    pdbedit -a -s /etc/samba/smb.conf -c '[UN]' -u test5

    results in

No builtin backend found, trying to load plugin
    Module 'tdbsam' loaded
    new password:
    retype new password:
(and lots of information on the new user)

(prompts twice for the password, so "-c '[UN]' " doesn't work?)
