The only module I have found to allow a remote shutdown
via webmin is the init module, or better known as the
Bootup and Shutdown module.

This module will not install on Gentoo as Gentoo does
not use an rc?.d paradigm for init scripts - which is
the other main thrust of the init module.

Considering that other distributions and operating
systems do not utilize the rc?.d bootup processes, I
would like to see the shutdown bottom come out of the
module and be placed simply as at the bottom of system
(when webmin is accessed by a priviledged user - such
as root). Would this be possible, or must I hack every
update of webmin to put the shutdown capability in Gentoo?

That's a good point .. in the next Webmin release, that
module will be available on Gentoo. Although it won't be able
to do much apart from rebooting and shutting down ..
