You don't need a function
vimt_image_2d_of<vxl_byte> is merely a wrapper around a =
i.e. if im1 is a vimt_image_2d_of<vxl_byte>
im1.image() is the underlying vil_image_view<vxl_byte>.
You can assign it, and process it as normal.
vil_image_view<vxl_byte> im2 =3D im1.image();
The purpose of vimt is not to do any actual image processing --- all =
that is delegated to vil or vil3d. vimt only provides the registration, =
and dimensionality abstraction services.
