I compiled the trunk svn in a fakeroot environment (standard for creating packages in Arch Linux), and it seems to have created the file $(install-prefix)/bin/glmovie, of which one is currently installed on my computer, provided by smpeg. A diff shows that the two differ. Can both exist coincidentally with different names, somehow? Should the one from vxl replace the one from smpeg? This seems to be the only problem, from the bin directory.

Sure. You could rename the vxl one to (say) oxl_glmovie
To do this permanently, replace "glmovie" by "oxl_glmovie" three times (lines 26-28) in the source-tree file contrib/oxl/apps/glmovie/CMakeLists.txt (I've already made that change in svn.)
> Should the one from vxl replace the one from smpeg?
Definitely not. It's a "glmovie-like" application, but using vil1 and vidl_vil1.
