A few news items on the development VuFind Administrator Group:
1.) We now have a vufind-admins mailing list. If you are interested in being an administrator or in helping to shape the role of the administrator group, please join the new list. This will be my last cross-post to vufind-general and vufind-tech; all future discussions of these issues will take place on vufind-admins. This will also be the public forum for administrative discussions once the group is constituted. You can join here:
2.) I've put together a wiki page with some proposed guidelines based on discussions between Andrew and the Villanova team:
Please read over this and share your comments and concerns. I don't want to make things too formal, and I definitely don't want to alienate anyone -- the goal is simply to have a mechanism we can all live with that helps us move forward when a decision needs to be made.
3.) As you'll see when you read the wiki page, we're aiming for an admin group size of seven people with annual terms -- hopefully a reasonable compromise between inclusiveness and efficiency. Unfortunately, even with a fairly large target size, we have more volunteers than we can accommodate. Unless enough people are content to lurk on the admin list without having voting power (for the first year, at least), this will probably come down to an election of some sort. Eoghan has done some good work on a skills survey that might help with the decision-making process in that event. For now, though, I'm interested in hearing everyone's initial thoughts. More details on surveys and voting will be forthcoming.
See you on the vufind-admins list!
