I am currently looking at implementing Vufind as the main system in a relatively small theological seminary library. We had started the bibliography transfer with another system, but we are finding that the reporting capabilities are a bit lackluster. What are Vufind's capabilities as far as reporting for stocktaking? Can you run reports by dewey number? How about circulation stats? Error reporting or missing/overdue books? Also, can bibliographic imports be made using barcode or ISBN? I cannot find a comprehensive guide to Vufind admin capabilities on their webpage. |

Hi Kristin, >I am currently looking at implementing Vufind as the main system in a relatively small theological seminary library. >We had started the bibliography transfer with another system, but we are finding that the reporting capabilities are a bit >lackluster Vufind is a opac, not an ILS. So you don't have circultation at all and you can't catalogue. If you seek a open source ILS you can try: -- Koha [http://koha-community.org/] -- PMB [http://www.pmbservices.fr/nouveau_site/pmblelogiciel.html] -- ABCD [https://sites.google.com/site/abcdlibraryautomationsoftware/home] Bye Zeno Tajoli |

As Zeno pointed out, VuFind is designed as a user-oriented front-end only and is meant to be paired with a secondary system for actually managing your records. Some of the things you are interested in are possible within VuFind to some extent -- searching/browsing by Dewey number, for example. Other things might be possible depending on what kind of data you can export from the other system and push into VuFind's index; I can help you with the details of that if necessary. But the key question is: what are you trying to do? If you are looking to completely replace your existing ILS, you will need more than just VuFind (though VuFind may be a component of the solution if you don't like the OPAC built into whatever alternative software you choose). If you want to keep your existing ILS but improve the end user experience, then VuFind may already be a good option.... but then you need to decide which of the tools is best for any given task. I hope this helps clear some things up, but please let me know if you still have questions! - Demian ________________________________ From: Kristin Petersheim [kri...@gm...] Sent: Tuesday, March 26, 2013 3:23 AM To: vuf...@li...
