Hi all, Is it possible to add a cover to a record manually? If no it would be great to use browse function and select a cover for a record. Best regards, Kaygan |

Hi Kaygan, Display of bookcovers are handled by /web/bookcovers.php which uses ISBN numbers to check for images from the provides you configured in the [Content] section of /web/conf/config.ini. Do you have ISBN numbers in your records? If not, do you have a reference (e.g. a URL to the image) to the cover elsewhere in your MARC record? Hi, It works for 10 digit numbers isbn but not for 13. Actually put the covers to the cover folder with named isbn numbers for no have cover picture books is really great idea i think. Because it is very easy! You can easily put the book covers that have isbn numbers which local books or thesis that not have covers. Could you please edit the bookcovers.php for the 13 digit numbers? You know i don't have computer language knowledge. And what do you think for without isbn numbers book? Which marc field do you think use for giving url to the book cover pictures? I have updated the book cover code to support 13-digit ISBNs in the cover directory. You can download the improved version here: https://vufind.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/vufind/trunk/web/bookcover.php Supporting books without ISBNs is more complex, and the best solution may vary from place to place. Perhaps OCLC number would be a good candidate for matching, though. - Demian > -----Original Message----- > From: zebil [mailto:ze...@gm...] > Sent: Friday, May 06, 2011 4:51 AM > To: eog...@gm... > Cc: VuF...@li... > Subject: Re: [VuFind-General] cover > > Hi, > It works for 10 digit numbers isbn but not for 13. Thanks Demian it is working now for 13 digit numbers. Maybe a marc field could be used giving a reference url for books without ISBNs as Eoghan said before. But i don't know is it possible or not. Hi Demian, As you know the new bookcover.php that you have edited is great. First of all i want to report that the image file extension must be .jpg It doesn't work with .jpeg files. And as a secondary; Is it possible to add a patch for serials too? Using issn numbers like xxxx-xxxx for serials cover picture? Perhaps the easiest approach would be to use the record ID (usually in MARC 001). That is a completely unambiguous identifier that is guaranteed to exist in every record... though obviously this solution is very specific to your local institution. It would also be necessary to put some kind of prefix or suffix on the files in the cache to avoid clashes between record IDs and ISBNs (since these values could theoretically overlap). Implementing this would require two steps: 1.) Update all the templates that call bookcover.php to pass along an ID value in addition to the ISBN. 2.) Update bookcover.php to read in the new ID value and check for matching files in the cache (or in some other location -- perhaps it would make more sense to use a specific "covers by ID" directory somewhere). I'm not sure if this belongs in the core VuFind code... but perhaps it does. In any case, step #1 is a bit of a chore, but step #2 is pretty straightforward. - Demian > -----Original Message----- > From: zebil [mailto:ze...@gm...] > Sent: Monday, May 09, 2011 1:08 PM > To: Demian Katz > Cc: eog...@gm...; VuF...@li... > Subject: RE: [VuFind-General] cover > > Thanks Demian it is working now for 13 digit numbers. > Maybe a marc field could be used giving a reference url for books > without ISBNs as Eoghan said before. Yes, you are correct - the extension must be .jpg rather than .jpeg (and, depending on operating system, may also have to be all-lowercase). The code could be changed to allow other extensions, but that would make it slower - I think it is worth requiring the .jpg extension in order to keep things fast and consistent. As for adding ISSN support, this would require a number of files to be edited in order to make it work, but it is certainly possible. If you let me know which theme you are using, I might be able to put together a quick patch to demonstrate how it would have to work. - Demian From: Kaygan Zemin [mailto:ze...@gm...] Sent: Tuesday, May 24, 2011 7:55 AM To: Demian Katz Cc: eog...@gm...; VuF...@li... It turns out that this is easier than I had thought. Just follow these steps: 1.) Edit the IndexRecord.php file and change the last function to this version: protected function getThumbnail($size = 'small') { global $configArray; if (($isn = $this->getCleanISBN()) || ($isn = $this->getCleanISSN())) { return $configArray['Site']['url'] . '/bookcover.php?isn=' . urlencode($isn) . '&size=' . urlencode($size); } return false; } 2.) Fix a small bug in the getCleanISSN function - there is a reference to $isbn that should be changed to $issn. 3.) Put your image files in the usual directories - just name them by using the number as the filename and jpg as the extension. Leave out the dash (so for ISSN 1234-5678, you would use 12345678.jpg). - Demian From: Kaygan Zemin [mailto:ze...@gm...] Sent: Tuesday, May 24, 2011 8:56 AM To: Demian Katz Cc: eog...@gm...; VuF...@li... Are there any Innovative Interfaces libraries out there that support circulation transactions directly through VuFInd? And if so, are they/you exchanging data with a single ILS instance? More than one? Thanks. Daniel |

I'm not personally aware of any, but if they're out there I'd also be interested to know about it! Yesterday, we committed improved hold/recall/renewal support to the VuFind trunk (currently only supported by Voyager, but with Horizon and possibly Aleph coming soon); if anyone wants to partner on III support within this new framework, I'd be happy to help however I can. - Demian From: Lovins, Daniel [mailto:dan...@ya...] Sent: Tuesday, May 24, 2011 12:10 PM To: vuf...@li... Hi It's nice to hear that extended driver functionality is in trunk and so the API is stable, so I will start to work on my Aleph driver for vufind to use this new functionality. Great, thank you! Note that the driver spec still needs to be updated (Luke and I will finish it up before the VuFind 1.2 release, but it may still take a few more weeks).
