Hi, in the minutes of yesterday's developers call (shame on me - I always forget this date...) I read this: "Filipe brought up the growing area of open data -- for example, Harvard's recent release of catalog data, and the harvestable pubmed index. Demian will create a wiki page (Open Data Sources <http://vufind.org/wiki/open_data_sources>) to track this and encourage sharing of free data. There was also discussion of having a central index of this data that could either be added to search results via sharding and/or used as a replication source for local clones. This would require significant infrastructure work, but it would be a useful tool for the VuFind community -- perhaps a topic for deeper discussion at the Summit in October." This sounds like a very promising idea, I think! Maybe I could get involved in discussions about that? I'll try to attend the next call. Or is this topic deferred until October? - Oliver -- Oliver Goldschmidt TU Hamburg-Harburg / Universitätsbibliothek / Digitale Dienste Denickestr. 22 21071 Hamburg - Harburg Tel. +49 (0)40 / 428 78 - 32 91 eMail o.g...@tu... -- GPG/PGP-Schlüssel: http://www.tub.tu-harburg.de/keys/Oliver_Marahrens_pub.asc -- Projekt DISCUS http://discus.tu-harburg.de Projekt TUBdok http://doku.b.tu-harburg.de |
