I'd recommend diffing your theme against the base theme it is derived from to figure out the scope of the customizations. From what I've seen of HSP's VuFind, I wouldn't expect it to be horrendously complicated. Once you have a list of which changes need to be ported, I can help you identify 2.x equivalents to 1.x templates if anything is non-obvious. I'd recommend building your new theme on bootstrap/bootprint rather than blueprint, since I think that's likely to be the way of the future -- I wouldn't be surprised to see blueprint get deprecated in another few versions, once all the kinks are ironed out of bootstrap.

You might also want to check out the recent thread on vufind-tech about authentication vs. authorization; there's been some ongoing brainstorming there that may be relevant to the LDAP work you're interested in doing.

I should also note that, since you're in the area, if you ever feel like stopping by Villanova for a bit of in-person collaboration, we can set something up. I've had a few "mini-hackfests" with the team from Tri-Colleges, and these have proven to be quite valuable.

Thanks, Demian! Iím really enjoying the chance to work with VuFind again.

Any general pointers on transforming our 1.1 theme to a 2.2 theme?

The other thing weíll be doing thatís new is implementing an LDAP-based authentication scheme for our members. This is because weíre adding new HSP genealogy databases that will be for members or paying customers only.

Welcome back, and good luck with the upgrade. If I can be of any assistance, just let me know.

Subject: [VuFind-General] Introduction

Hello All,

It has been a very long time since Iíve been active on this list, but the Historical Society of Pennsylvania (HSP) is starting a project to update its VuFind installation, so I thought it time to reintroduce HSP and myself.

HSP currently has in production a VuFind 1.1-based discovery layer at

We have begun development on a new version based on VuFind 2.2.1. The development version is available at

Iíve actually had a long association with VuFind, having written an article for Library Hi Tech about it back in 2009. I also oversaw development of a VuFind installation for my previous employer.

Iím looking forward to chatting with you all as our project moves forward.
