If you type:

ps -aux | grep java

Do you see a VuFind process running?

Sometimes if Solr goes really crazy, the process stays alive and prevents you from starting another one. You can try:

kill -9 (process ID from ps output)

You might need to use sudo, depending on your system's setup.

If that fails, rebooting the server might not hurt if that's an option.

Subject: [VuFind-General] Suddenly Solr offline

Hi,
I got into work this morning only to discover that VuFind reports: an error has occurred. Solr is offline.

I tried restarting vufind. Nothing. Output looks fairly normal.

Found JAVA=/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk-amd64/jre/bin/java in JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk-amd64

I tried going to catalog.winnefox.org:8080/solr/  got a 404 error.

I looked at my reindex.log file and didnít see any errors, but it also didnít report a successful completionónot sure if it is supposed to, Iíve never looked before.

I found suggestions from archives to reindex.  Reindexing will take about an hour, so I was wondering if there were anything else quicker that I could try.

Sincerely,
Karla
