I know you can use it for sorting purposes like this:

  /solr/biblio/select?q=*:*&sort=_docid_%20desc

-> in this case it will retrieve the last records added to the "biblio" core, being the first record in the output, the last added (with the highest docid).

-> or "asc", if you want to see the first record added to SOLR's "biblio" core.

Got to look further in the SOLR docs / wikis / foruns / MLs to find a way to retrieve a record by its SOLR docid value.
