First of all, welcome to the group!

As for your point about active public participation not being the only consideration, that's true -- I know that Yale has done a lot of work with VuFind, and you're certainly not disqualified from the running because you haven't been highly visible with the public VuFind lists.  Hopefully the skills survey will help show off everybody's potential contributions, even if their names don't show up in our inboxes on a daily basis.  However, since a large part of the administrative group's work is going to involve public discussions to make decisions about VuFind's future, people who have already been demonstrating these particular skills are likely to have an edge in the voting.

Whatever happens, though, I don't want to put too much weight on the voted-in group vs. the voted-out group.  We need to keep the decision-making group lean for sanity's sake, but I'm hoping that won't stop anybody else from chipping in their opinions…  and annual elections should give opportunities for more people to get into the inner circle sooner or later.

Hello,

I did want to offer one small thing to consider. I was nominated at Yale for my skills and position, not my active participation in the Vufind-tech email list. I only mention this because I do think that the qualifications are good but in some cases may not represent the best interest of the organization that is participating, assuming Yale remains represented in the community in this manner.

But above that, I also wanted to say hello as I’ve never posted in the Vufind forum and to mention that I look forward to working with everyone on this project.

I just checked the membership list, and it looks like all of the VuFind admin volunteers have joined this list.  If anybody has been waiting to speak until the whole group was present, you can go ahead now.  Please let us know if you have any objections to the proposed policies and group composition… though I'm hoping the silence means general agreement!

As far as moving forward, I've asked Eoghan to post a link to the skills survey he's been developing so we can learn more about each other's abilities and hopefully make more informed decisions in order to build a diverse, committed and stable admin group.  We also need to figure out a voting procedure to select the group once we have the necessary information available -- I plan to spend some time looking at LimeSurvey to see if that's a suitable tool since it's conveniently built into the Sourceforge site, but if there are other suggestions, I'm happy to hear them.
