Hey Renato, I think I know the link you're talking about, and it looks busted, yeah. The Distros have all approached lzo2 inclusion separately, and in many cases it shows that they don't coordinate much between one another -- not that they should, but distro communications is the only thing worse than ISV relations, some days. The patches aren't being given back, with the exception of a large patchset from Debian, so far. Unfortunately, the same problem holds true with their solution for the lzo2 integration: they fix their facet of the problem, while not concerning themselves with how another vendor in the space has or will fix it. It's a reasonable stance to take, but it means there's no middle ground and unfortunately little communication with the ISV itself. I know personally that pre-caldera SCO had a decently-staffed ISV Liaison group, back when the focus was on Unix, but that was both contract-based and ill-suited for OSS communications -- and probably gutted when Caldera bought them anyway, so even OpenLinux wasn't in a position to benefit. That's my rant. David, Ruzsi and I have been talking about LZO2 in vtun; all of us, of course, from different angles. Ruzsi first brought it up under the guise of SuSE 10 compatibility, so rfe1602625 is all about SuSE; but it's really an lzo2 issue. David started talking about it, if I remember correctly, for vtun 2.6 .. so that's on the ToDo list. There is a test-candidate if you want to poke at it. It's here, and I'm sure another look-over would be excellent: http://vtun.info/vtun-3.0.1-rfe1602625.tar.gz The good news is that David and Ruzsi have both blessed it - David only this weekend - and so I'm thinking it's good. I'd like to see vtun 301 released very soon, with that fix, so let me know (offline) if it doesn't look good on Gentoo? Sorry about the posting delay: the lists went moderated not so long ago, and the first post (or two, if I forget :-/ ) is held even after subscribing. Spam sucks; the reaction sucks almost as much. - bish seventh guardian wrote: > Hello, > > Usually I would have already searched the archives before popping the > question, but since the archive link in the website is not working, > here it goes: > > Is there any planned support for lzo2 in vtun? Every single day, they come out with a total exploit, your machine can be taken over totally. I dare anybody to do that once a month on the Windows machine. -- Bill Gates Newsweek, 20070203 |
