PureTkGUI : a very promising tool !

I have just discovered PureTkGUI on SourceForge (https://sourceforge.net/projects/puretkgui/). It seems another guy has had the same idea as me ! This tool pretty much resembles Visual TCL, except it supports the latest Tcl/Tk themed widgets, which allows to create better looking GUIs than what VisualTCL is able to. I hope this tool will continue improving, as Tcl/Tk lacks a serious and up-to-date GUI builder these days...

Visual TCL replacement underway

Hi all happy Visual TCL users ! It is with great sadness that I see that my work on Visual TCL trunk, as a developer, hasn't ever been taken into account by the project admins to make a new release. I have therefore taken the decision to stop working on Visual TCL and move on with something new and better, i.e. my own Tk GUIs design tool. It is still at a beta stage but be prepared to be amazed, it's gonna be good.
I'll post here whenever this new tool reaches a stable enough state for production use.
Regards and "good bye Visual TCL" !

Visual Tcl 1.6.0b2 released

Visual Tcl is a freely-available, high-quality application development environment for UNIX, Windows, Macintosh and AS400 platforms. Visual Tcl is written entirely in Tcl/Tk and generates pure Tcl/Tk code. This release fixes problems seen with the img package on tck/Tk 8.4.2, hanging vTcl on startup or with broken image links. More simple tutorials have been added, and support for creating and reusing megawidgets enhanced. Easy implementation of modal dialogs can be done with the toplevel alias command.... read more

vTcl development update

Just wanted to give some info on what's happening on vTcl development right now.

I am working on redesigning the compound system:

- the older system used complex multilevel data structures

- the new system uses the same code as for dumping projects, thus avoiding a lot of duplicate code and effort for dumping and creating compounds

o a compound is now contained in its own namespace, it is "human readable"... read more

Visual Tcl 1.6.0a2 released

This release fixes major bugs found in 1.6.0a1.

Childsites like columns, notebook pages, panes, toolbar buttons, etc. can now have their options saved or not using checkboxes, like in the attributes editor. This allows easier porting to other platforms and reduces the project size as well.

Support has been added for the BLT barchart widget.

Feedback, bug reports and feature requests welcome. Whenever possible, please use the trackers on SourceForge for bug reports or feature requests, so that we have a record. Thanks!

Fix for unknown color name "" problem

Until I find how to fix it (possibly a Tk bug), there is a simple workaround :
- find your .vtclrc (most likely in ~ or C:\, e.g. in $env(HOME))
- open it in a text editor
- find the line that says
set vTcl(pr,bgcolor) ...
- replace it by
set vTcl(pr,bgcolor) {}
- save the file
- restart vTcl
- do NOT change the color preference for the background in vTcl after this change, otherwise the bug will come back.

Moving to SourceForge : re-starting development

I'm excited to be moving Visual Tcl off of my personal box and onto SourceForge. The built-in functions of this facility far outstrip all the home-grown stuff I never finished for my site (like news :). At the same time it should make it a lot easier to bring more developers and energy to the process. And most importanty, it guarantees that Visual Tcl will have a safe, open home and can continue to be developed even in my absence.
