I have a Vine Server (aka OSXvnc) server running on my iMac (OSX
10.5.6) at home and have been trying to use the TightVNC client
(1.3.10) from my Windows XP SP3 machine at work. After connecting
all *appears* to be OK, the screen is displayed and, for the
first few seconds or so everything seems to work as one would
expect (if a little slowly). However, after those initial 10-15
seconds the display simply stops refreshing. The only way to get
the screen to update again is by requesting a manual refresh.
After such a refresh I sometimes get a few more seconds where
everything works again but very soon the screen again stops
I have no problems using the Jaadu VNC client for iPhone and have
just tried the RealVNC free Windows client which also works with
FWIW I'm connecting via an SSH tunnel using corkscrew to get past
the office proxy/firewall, but that shouldn't make a difference
(RealVNC works fine using this setup). I'm using the Low Bandwith
settings and have tried playing around with the encoding options
but to no avail.
If I could get TightVNC to work I'd prefer to use it over RealVNC
because of the screen scaling which RealVNC doesn't have (my iMac
desktop is significantly larger than my office desktop).
