hi Matthew, the remote management of my router is disabled. i have also tried putting the vnc server's pc in the dmz. if it doesn't work locally then i would guess that it wouldn't remotely either. i have tried a program (ZSNES 1.42) to create a TCP connection on the same port that the server should be listening on from the outside and it works on port 80. for connections in both directions. so it really looks like a issue with TightVNC. i take it then that you guys are all able to connect to port 21 and 80? ( would help a great deal if i know ) From: mat...@ho... To: ven...@ms...; vnc...@li... Subject: RE: viewer not connecting to port 21 and 80 Date: Mon, 28 Feb 2011 16:10:20 +0000 Hi venom, The reason you're having a problem, its likely one of two reasons... 1) port 80 and 21 could be being blocked by the routers external firewall (though the firewall web-administration page may not show them as being blocked), you may need to explicitly make an exception. This could come down to the fact that http (web-administration) and ftp (tftp, for firmware upgrades) services are running on the router, and so for protection, nothing is allowed through the firewall on those ports. 2) The two ports may already be bound on both your LAN and WAN addresses, meaning that the port-forwarding service can't bind the ports aswell. Thanks, Matthew From: ven...@ms... To: vnc...@li... Subject: viewer not connecting to port 21 and 80 Date: Mon, 28 Feb 2011 16:10:54 +0100 i'm using TightVNC 2.0.2 on Windows 7. the viewer seems to have trouble connecting to port 80. the viewer will not connect with a loopback to 127.0.0.1:80 but it will connect with a loopback to 127.0.0.1 (using the default port 5900). i have tested this with my router using port forwarding with connections from the outside.- public port 5900 -> private port 80 (so vnc server on port 80) works- public port 80 -> private port 5900 (so vnc server on port 5900) not working so i think the viewer has a problem with connecting to port 80. port 21 seems to have exactly the same issue. a few other ports i have tried seem to work fine. what's the problem? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Free Software Download: Index, Search & Analyze Logs and other IT data in Real-Time with Splunk.
