Logon screen greyed out on Windows 2003 server

I have a number of Dell server which are running Windows 2003 Std addition.
Occasionally after I install Tight VNC I can not log on to the machines as
the log-on screen has both usernames and password greyed out.

The only answer is to hard reboot the server, if I remove VNC all is back
to normal.

Anyone have any idea?
