It would be nice to have an option to remember the whole screen
in the client in order not to refresh all the time via the network (eg
when a dialog hides some part of the screen or when pannig is
used on a bigger remote screen).
It should help a lot on slow connections...

Moving this to the feature request section.

    As a side-note, I only partially understand what you're
asking. might be helpful to elaborate further what you mean.

    I mean such a situation:
    You have a screen 1024x768.
Then you connect to a screen 1280x1024 - only the visible part
(1024x768) is transferred via network (e.g. upper left corner).
Then you pan to the right side - a stripe 256x768 is transferred.
Then you pan back to the left - again a stripe 256x768 is transferred
but it has already been transferred in the first transfer.
    A different situation:
After being connected you press F8 to display the pop-up menu. It
    partially obscures the remote screen.
When the menu closes, it tears off a hole which needs to be
    retransferred.
A proposed solution to the above problems:
    1. Do the transfers as the whole screen would be visible.
    2. Remember it in memory.
    3. Display only the part that is visible.

Is it about X11 viewer? If so, this will be solved with
    upgrading to VNC4-derived codebase.
