We have OpenVMPS running with 2 servers that over 300 edge switches poll from. I
set it up to read mac -> vlan information from a MySQL database to prevent having
to dynamically create a vlan.db file all the time. You might consider setting it
up this way and having the two VMPS servers read from the single database server.
This however would introduce a single point of failure with the MySQL server.
We have the identical database information stored on two servers that each VMPS
pulls from, and it will connect to the secondary MySQL server if one dies. We
write database changes to both MySQL servers and periodically run a sync program
called SJA to keep them up to date.

Subject: [OpenVMPS-devel] Newbie questions
I've just setup a VMPS server with Solaris 8 and done some simple tests with
a switch, and it works fine. ==> great Software, thanks!
A few questions arise, though:
1. Is there a feature for a secondary VMPS server with auto sync, or do I
just need to setuo a dulpicate server, and handle the config sync myself?
2. In vlan.db, I can't use "all-ports", or a port range, only a single port:
!device 192.168.245.160 port all-ports
!device 192.168.245.160 port 2/1-50
device 192.168.245.160 port 2/1
The lines with "!" won't work for me.
3. I'd like to have detailed logs in syslog. I set the log mask to FFFF, but
still don't see much. If I start in debug mode, its logs lovely detail to
syslog, and also to the terminal.
==> Would it be possible to have debug logging, without running in
foreground mode, and without writing to stderr?
Thanks in advance,
