I would suggest a different approach: Get the source package from the Linux download page at vpython.org and build from source. It's important to study the comments on the vpython.org download page and in the file INSTALL.txt. Even after trying on a completely fresh and up to date jaunty install, I keep getting segfaults on a script that does nothing but import the visual module.
