Hi, all. We've discovered that, unfortunately, the implementation of the MIT-SHM extension in Exceed 2008 appears to be very broken. Since the VirtualGL Windows client uses that extension, the VGL Windows client will fail to work with Exceed 2008 if the MIT-SHM extension is enabled in the latter. This bug generally causes the VGL client to fail silently, producing a black window rather than the output of the 3D application. This issue does not occur in Exceed 2007 or earlier, so if you haven't upgraded to Exceed 2008, don't. If you have a current Exceed support contract, then you should be able to get Exceed 2007 installation media from Hummingbird free of charge. If you are using the evaluation version of Exceed 2008, then the best work-around is to disable the MIT-SHM extension (under the "Extensions" tab in the "X Server Protocol" applet in XConfig.) This will produce slower performance, but at least VGL will work. A support ticket has been opened with Hummingbird regarding this issue. DRC |
