No

When highlighting the text of an item and then using ctrl-c, the ITEM itself is copied, not just the text. Then, when pasting, the whole item (can even be the top layer) is duplicated instead of just the text, even when one is in text entry/renaming again on another item.

    Agreed it's annoying.
Note as a workaround - I think that selecting the text and then using right click -> copy, works with just the text.
This works as it bypasses Viking cut/copy mechanism using the widgets internal methods.
ATM I'm not sure how to get the ctrl-c to only copy the text when the treeview widget is being edited (seems hidden within internal GtkCellRender stuff - which I can't see how to access).

  • Agreed also that this behaviour is annoying.

Personnaly, I found that the idea to edit the name directly in the treeview is not a good choice. I'm not sure it is a 'standard' way to do such thing. IMHO, the name must be part of the "Property" dialog. This is how nautilus do the job and so I suppose it's part of a UI guideline.

If there is any reason to not move names (yes, all names) in "Property" dialog, at least we have to add a "rename" action with a specific dialog. Git inform us that this behaviour is part of the original viking's code, done by Evan in 2005.

Code added into the master code base.

This will be in the 1.5 release.

NB Given Windows Explorer has always allowed changing the (directory) name in the treeview - it is the 'standard' way!
IMHO it's a defect in Nautilus (and Thunar - and thus maybe the Gnome UI guidelines?) that you can't change it there.

The name should also be in the property dialog, but that's for another time...
