I've another feature on the wishlist for the next version. I really appreciate the new drive sound emulation, even the sound of the rotation motor which was really good digitzed. But I can't really warm to the step motor sound. First of all the "basic system" sound plays much to high, sounds like one of the EA fast loaders (like in Caveman Ugh-Lympics). I've digitzed and attached the original sound from a real 1541-II in this tread from one of my video tutorials (if anyone need a clear and uncompressed recording, please let me know). Also with this emulation, some nice programs like "Sing Song Serenade" don't work at all; they're just playing a long beep without notes. This demo can be found here: http://csdb.dk/release/?id=37806

WinUAE currently has the better drive sound emulation...not perfectly but it keeps at least the correct sound scale. Maybe VICE does it in the next version as well. :-)

  • I'm quite fond of the drive sound emulation in VICE, it reminds me well of my old long 1541 drive. Personally, I wouldn't change a thing, but that choice isn't up to me :)
I disagree about WinUAE sounding better, IMO its the worst sounding drive emulation I've ever heard, even though its supposedly emulating a 3 1/2" drive sound.
